Step two...

The next phase of online self indulgence.
I made the mistake of monkeying around with my original BLOG located here http://here2ventandwine.blogspot.com/ and ruining it.
I am useless.
I am starting over..and here we go.

Pat Metheny

I was listening to the original version of this piece of music on my ipod the other day.

A part of of me wants so very much to dismiss Pat Metheny...but most of that is because you can't really pidgeonhole his music..
.Jazz?...New Age?..Fusion?..
Some of it really hits me though...

Here are two cool versions of the same tune.

The first one is with Pats "Picasso" guitar...cool sounding ,..but I sure wouldn't want to tune that bad boy..

The second version is with Anna Marie Jopak.

God that woman has a beautiful voice

...and she ...very much like my wife ...keeps getting hotter and hotter the older she gets.

I on the other hand just keep getting more hair on my back.

I've always had a thing for Polish chicks.. :o)

Atavism

So... Popular music almost never reaches me.

My kids love music and I am desperate for them to learn the guitar or something...god please just something!!!

The 'songs' they listen too have no real instruments in the traditional sense. The sound production seems to be the 'instrument'.....and I don't know how to teach that.
There is no real incentive for them to learn how to play an actual 'traditional instrument' because these instruments have no role in the music they love to listen too...

This is a hurdle..and I am not about to force the issue.

When I started out there was a genuine curiosity and I flailed away blindly for a while. That has to be the first step at least for guitar.

I had a day off today and decided to restring the guitar. As I was stretching out the strings and re-tuning them  I started to play the little arpeggio in the beginning of this U2 song... wasn't even sure what it was at first...then the memory came flooding back...
Memories of teen years ...high school ....hormones...innocence...clarity of vision...

Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then...

As stuffy as I've become with music and the study of music I have to admit that this type of a thing had real value for me back then and I was moved by the memory of it...

I suppose its the same for the kids and what they've got...and I am the old fuddy duddy that can't relate to it..

Maybe playing the guitar isn't cool anymore???..and that's just how it is...

BTW...speaking of guitar strings...I just ordered ten sets off Amazon and saved myself like 75%...I may start buying groceries off there as well.

Uh OH!!

So here is something that you don't see everyday.

My father in law called me the other morning after just coming in from a morning of 'pickeral' fishing.
I know it's called Walleye...but I happen to be in Rome... I live in Rome in fact.

It is even listed on the menus in local restaurants as pickeral.

We Canadians have never been much for reality....

..Anyway...Gerry informs me that in the night a giant lake freighter ran aground right out in front of the water treatment plant in about 19 ft of water.

Not sure how this happened.

The shipping channel is very clearly lit with giant sounder buoys all the way out from under the bridges...not to mention fancy smancy electronics....

" I thought you were driving the boat??...but I thought you were driving the boat??...I WASN'T DRIVING THE BOAT!!!!....doh!

Hmmm
Not exactly a shining moment for our Captain.

By the time the kids and I got down to take a look there was already a crowd of gawkers assembled to witness the poor ships misfortune.
'Haven't these people got anything better to do with their time!!!

:o)

It was pretty neat though.

They were well into the first plan of attack.

I guess the idea was to use two tug boats to try and push the back end off the shoals.

This wasn't working...lol..

One thing that struck me was that nothing interrupts the pickeral slaughter. Not even a nautical emergency.

The area was still peppered with boats trying get over that sweet spot...which was right around where the boat ran aground.

Could the Captain have been trying to dead drift the Pickeral hole??

Hmmmm

MEAT!!!!!...MORE MEAT!!!!!!

Speaking of meat....

I got chance to fire up the smoker and do up some of the Lake Michigan salmon we'd caught the other day.

I only realized after it was too late that JB had suggested I try his 'dry cure' brine method.

Maybe next time...

The fish turned out really good although personally I like a little more heat to it. I took some into work yesterday and the Border Monkies devoured it.
even the people that "dont like fish" raved about it. I guess thats what happens when you take something healthy and completely undermine any of its nutritional benefits with an abundance of salt and known carcinogen.

:o)

Interesting day yesterday at work...the world is indeed a very strange place and my job is anything but boring.
